Stakeholders Meet Communities Over Buipe-Bolgatanga Pipeline

The predicament of communities along the Buipe-Bolgatanga petroleum product pipeline project site would soon be a thing of the past. Radio Justice can establish that all stakeholders involved have come on board to find a lasting solution to the issue. The communities, namely Yipala, Chanpe, Jabalpe, Zamzugu, Kurubampe and surrounding communities have halted the project, demanding that the Bulk Oil Supply and Transport, BOST of the Ministry of Energy, which is executing the project, moved away from the dam in the area, which is their only source of drinking water or excavate a new one for them. These, the communities have asked before the continuation of the project.

President J. A. Kufuor cut sod for the commencement of the project last November, which is valued at 40 point-two million dolars. It would transport petroleum products, through an eight-inch diameter pipeline from Buipe in the Northern region to Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, a distance of over 275 kilometres. It is being financed by the Korean government with 38 million dollars and the rest by the government of Ghana. It is expected to be completed in November this year. BOST would earn not less than five million dollars from the transaction and after completion, it would benefit about 10 million dollars every year.
