Kasoa (C/R) Feb. 13 GNA – The District Chief Executive for the Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Captain Steve Armah on Saturday appealed to chiefs and other stakeholders in the Kasoa New Market to help move the market peacefully from the old site to the new site on Tuesday. He said after that the assembly would meet with any individual or group of person that has any grievance or difference in connection with the new market to resolved them.
Making the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Kasoa, the DCE expressed regret that since the official inauguration of the new market in December traders have not moved into it because of misunderstanding among the stakeholders.
He said that the assembly, at its emergency meeting at Winneba on Friday decided that traders should move to the new market immediately and that the coming on Tuesday, February 15, should take place at the new site.
The DEC assured the traders not to entertain any fears at the new site following a threat by some people to cause trouble because the assembly had put adequate security measures in place to ensure peace and order.
Captain Armah said that the continue stay by the traders at the old market was slowing down the speed of the construction of the Mallam-Kasoa-Winneba portion of the road.
The multi-million cedis new market that was constructed by the district assembly with financial assistance from the Ghana Government and the World Bank was aimed, among other things, to relocate the old market that covers part of the main Accra-Cape Coast-Takoradi trunk road.
Apart from vehicles spending more time to cross that portion of the road some traders were sometime knocked down by the vehicles, the DEC said.
