Nkawie (Ash), Jan 18, GNA-The provision of quality education in the rural basic schools can only be realised if all stakeholders contributed meaningfully to address some of the numerous problems associated with it, Mr Richard Owusu-Agyemang, an Educationist has said.
Mr Owusu-Agyemang, an Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Public Relations at the Atwima District Education Directorate, said inadequate accommodation facilities for teachers, teaching and learning materials, parents inability to provide the basic needs of their children and the apathy by some communities towards educational programmes were some major set backs to quality education.
Mr Owusu-Agyemang, was addressing members of the School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and headteachers selected from 22 schools at a day’s workshop at Nkawie in the Ashanti Region on Monday.
It formed part of the Directorate’s community awareness programme aimed at improving on the efficiency of the SMCs and PTAs. Mr Owusu-Agyemang implored the communities to support teachers working in the rural areas to motivate them for hard work.
“Education can only benefit the whole society if all stakeholders made frantic efforts to develop and improve its quality”, he said. Madam Irene Comfort Badu, an Assistant Director of Education in-charge of School Health Education Programme at the Directorate, who chaired the function, charged the participants to be dedicated and committed to the improvement of education in their school communities.
