Staff of Ho and Adaklu-Anyigbe Mutual Health Schemes still at work

Ho, July 23, GNA – Staff of Ho Municipal and Adaklu-Anyigbe District Mutual Health Schemes are still on duty contrary to speculations that staff of mutual health schemes nationwide strike are on strike.

“What have you seen,” Mr Prosper Pi-Bansah, Manager of Ho Municipal Mutual Health Scheme asked when Ghana News Agency called at the scheme’s offices in Ho.

“There has been an official intervention,” he told GNA. At Adaklu-Anyigbe District office of the scheme some officials told Representatives of the two schemes were at post at the Volta Regional Hospital, Ho Polyclinic and Municipal Hospitals. Mr Pi-Bansah said even if the staff were on strike, their field workers who had been engaged by the scheme at the local level would continue to work.

Similarly, National Service Personnel working with the scheme at the local level would continue to work. Mr Pi-Bansah said out of 17 workers of the scheme only six were permanent staff on the payroll of the National Health Insurance Authority.

He said some of the grievances by the workers included lack of conditions of service, attempts to centralize the operations of the schemes, dismissals prompted by resistance to act contrary to laid down procedures, lack of workers’ union and apprehensions about their job security. Mr Pi-Bansah said they were committed to their work that accounted for the success of the scheme. 23 July 08
