Staff of Barclays bank cleans up Academy

Accra, Nov. 6, GNA – Staff of the Treasury Department of Barclays Bank Ghana on Saturday undertook a clean up exercise at the Accra Street Academy, fixing broken furniture and painting the structure of the Home, which houses some 93 street children.

The event was in commemoration of the Bank’s Make-A-Difference Day, which is marked every year as part of its global policy to engage in community service in its areas of operation.

In Ghana, the Bank undertook over 60 projects and organised clean ups, talks, lectures in communities across the country.

Mr Felix Nyarko-Pong, Executive Head of the Bank, said apart from the Bank’s social commitment to donating one per cent of its Gross Profit in charities, its staff also uses the Make-the-difference day to make their own personal contributions, which is supplemented by the Bank, to reach out to the community.

He said Staff of the Treasury Department has adopted the Academy because of the major social challenge that streetism posed to the development of the country.

Mr Nyarko-Pong said the inmates needed encouragement and motivation to enable them shape their future and pledged that his staff would continue to support the Academy to enable it implement its programmes. Nii Ataa Lantey, Principal of the Academy, commended the Bank staff for regularly visiting the Academy, saying it would motivate the children to aspire to responsible positions in future. The staff donated 160 Tee Shirts to the children.
