St. Fidelis SHS students cry for chairs to sit on

Students of St. Fidelis Senior High School at Tease in the Afram Plains South District have voiced out their displeasure for not having chairs to sit on during class hours.

They told Kasapa 102.3 FM in an interview that they had to turn tables into chairs before “we can sit and study”.

They also complained of the lack of computers and science equipment at the school’s ICT and Science laboratory centres.

That aside, they said they had to walk some distance to fetch some water to the pantry before going to class, a situation they noted, is impacting negatively on their studies.

But the District Chief Executive Officer of Afram Plains South, Hon. Issaka Ibrahim told Maame Broni during Saturday’s Mid-day news that although the school lacks some facilities; the government is working very hard to provide that they are not found wanting.

“Currently, three classroom blocks are being built for the school. It is at the roofing level and as we speak carpenters are working on it. Government is also constructing a 10-seater water closet toilet facility for the school. We are also building two bungalows that will house eight teachers. GETFund is also building a 12 classroom block for the school. So, we are doing a lot to ensure that standards are improved in the school”, he noted.

On the issue of the water situation, he said the Assembly, together with World Vision, have been helping the community with small town water projects but noted that the severity of this year’s Harmattan has greatly affected the water systems in the area, thereby, making the free-flow of water almost impossible.
