St. Bernadette Soubirous School launches 25th Anniversary

Accra, Oct. 31, GNA- The Saint Bernadette Soubirous School, a first-cycle institution at Dansoman in Accra, on Friday launched its silver jubilee celebrations, during which the school hopes to outline measures to further build on its academic excellence.

The anniversary dubbed: “Quality child education- The key to national challenges,” is a yearlong programme, crafted to define the school’s historical moments.

Professor Edward Ofori-Sarpong, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, guest speaker for the launch, said the theme was appropriate to propel the school towards quality education.

He urged key stakeholders in education, notably government, religious bodies and private investors to renew their commitment towards equity and excellence in education at the national, district and community levels.

“Quality education provides the fundamental skills that the students need to become productive citizens, capable of their civic engagement and sustaining competitive employment,” he said. Prof Ofori-Sarpong called for adequate monitoring of students’ studies and performance results with a view to encouraging them to improve upon their best.

Mrs Mary Aqualine Cato, Headmistress of the school, said the institution was named after Saint Bernadette Soubirous who died in 1978. She said the school aims at bringing up disciplined future leaders. Mrs Cato said the school hopes to acquire a computer centre, a private library complex, a modern sports complex of international standard and a school bus, among other facilities.

She appealed to individuals and institutions to aid the school financially to enable it to achieve its objectives. Trees were planted at the Dansoman roundabout to mark the launch.
