Ghana Education Service (GES) Council has decided to reduce the intake of students into each of the country?s Senior Secondary Schools (SSSs) over the next three years to a manageable size of 1,500. Currently some schools take as many as 3,000 students.
Mr. Michael Kenneth Nsowah, acting Director-General of the GES, who disclosed this in an interview in Accra, said the aim was to reduce the student population of the well-endowed schools especially, to help reduce pressure on those schools.
According to the GHANAIAN TIMES, a directive to this effect has been issued to heads of schools.
The decision was also taken ?in order to check indiscipline and to encourage students to patronise other schools that are equally good.?
The reduction would be effected gradually, starting from next academic year.
