SSNIT to go to court to recover loans

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) says it will use legal process to ensure that beneficiaries of the SSNIT students loans repay their loans.

The Public Affairs Director of SSNIT, Kwaku Osei-Bimpong, made this known to Radio Ghana on Monday and said SSNIT had disbursed about ?500bn since the inception of the scheme in 1988.

But according to him, the bulk of the money was yet to be recovered from the beneficiaries. Osei-Bimpong said the SSNIT would launch an education campaign to sensitise beneficiaries on the need to repay their loan.

The aim is to ensure the sustainability of the scheme, he said and urged all beneficiaries to endeavour to repay their loans. Alternatively, he said they could make satisfactory arrangements for repayment to avoid any embarrassment.
