SSNIT drags Vibe FM, 24 others to court

Accra, March 20, GNA – The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has initiated legal action against 25 tenants in its Trust Towers Building in Accra for failure to pay rent.

The occupants, including Questfine Limited, operators of Vibe FM Radio Station, James Quagraine and Co Limited, an Accra management consultancy firm and Business Focus owed SSNIT rent arrears of 1.3 billion cedis as at December 1999.

A SSNIT management source told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on Monday that in spite of repeated demand notices the tenants have failed to pay their rents.

It said SSNIT filed court writs in October last year and obtained final judgement against five of the tenants. The source did not mention the names of the five tenants.

He said five others have fully paid up upon the service of the writ of summons whilst nine of them have made part payment. The source said the tenants have also failed to pay electricity and water bills, which total 210 million cedis.
