SSNIT breaks ground to build 40 police posts

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has organized a ground breaking ceremony to commence building of 40 police stations across the country to mark its 50th anniversary.

The project is estimated to cost the Trust about GH¢3.2 million.

The General Manager of Investment Development Division at SSNIT, Mr Noel Addo speaking during the ground breaking said the project is in response of the Police Service request to build 200 police posts nationwide.

Mr Addo said each of the projects would have a charge office, a cell, a washroom (W/C/bathroom), armory and a terrace.

sod 1He said the initiative was part of the Trust’s social protection policy, which was expected to see an increase in police visibility country-wide.

The ground breaking ceremony on the Tema Motorway near the Accra Abattoir attracted top police officers as well as SSNIT Management and staff.sod 2The Director-General of Police Service in charge of Technical, COP Frank Adu-Poku speaking on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, expressed the service appreciation to SSNIT for responding to their plight.

He said with this police post in place, Ghanaians will feel the presence of police in their communities than never before.sod 3The move by SSNIT is also expected to see an increase in police presence in the country.

The Ghana Police Service has 11 police regions (including Tema), made up of 79 divisional headquarters, 275 district offices and 1,000 stations and posts.
