SSB Bank Official granted bail

Accra, Sept.22, GNA – Cephas Asuo, a Systems Analyst of the SSB Bank, accused of stealing 1.1 billion cedis belonging to the Bank was on Monday granted 800-million cedis bail by a Circuit Court in Accra. Asuo charged with altering documents and stealing monies totalling 1.1 billion cedis has pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Mr Willywise Kyeremeh pronounced that Asuo’s vehicles, which were impounded by the Police, should serve as security for his bail term.

It further ordered the accused to report to the Police every Wednesday and urged the Police to expedite action on the matter so that hearing could begin on October 8.

Mr Maurice Ampaw, his Counsel, at previous sittings renewed three bail applications for his client but the court objected to them. The objections were based on the fact that Police were still investigating the matter.

Police Inspector Bennett Sarfo had told the court that the Bank recently reviewed its operations and detected that Asuo, who was with the Information Technology Department, had manipulated the software of the computers and succeeded in withdrawing 1.1 billion cedis.
