SRC hail Kufuor’s call on University authorities

Accra, Feb 9, GNA – The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ghana, Legon has congratulated President John Agyekum Kufuor for calling on university authorities to involve students in decision-making process.

It described the call as “very encouraging and positive,” saying the SRC was impressed with the observation because this unfortunate trend of student exclusion in policy making within the university had become rife in recent times.

A statement signed by Mr Peter Nana Aseidu, and Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, SRC president and secretary respectively, said the President made the call at the last Saturday’s congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

It mentioned what the SRC described as “the unilateral ban” on the use of electrical gadgets on the university campus as one the cases that the authorities did not consult the Council.

According to the statement, this decision had resulted into serious hostilities and anarchy on Campus this semester.

It therefore, called on the university authorities to, as a matter of prime importance, heed to the President’s call unconditionally. The statement ended with the hope that this release would vindicate the SRC on the notion that it was only interested in antagonizing government.
