Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has established an inter-ministerial technical working group as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The initiative, announced earlier today, brings together key government institutions to coordinate national planning for the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The committee will be chaired by Sports minister Kofi Adams, with membership drawn from multiple ministries and strategic state agencies whose operations intersect with international sporting events.
Among the members are Mrs Wilhelmina Asamoah, Chief Director at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation; Mrs Sarpomaa Dodoo, Director for the Americas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Alhaji Abubakari Wayo, Chief Director at the Office of the President.
Other representatives include Solomon Mensah Tetteh from the Ministry of Interior; Ms Juliana Boateng, a budget analyst at the Ministry of Finance; Ms Joyce Akpalaaya Ajongbah from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; and Mrs Emma Ofori Agyemang of the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.
The working group will also include representatives from the Ghana Football Association and the private sector to ensure broad collaboration.
The new body is expected to streamline planning, boost coordination across ministries, and enhance Ghana’s readiness for the global tournament, both in terms of sporting performance and national visibility.
