Ghana’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating state of the Essipong Sports Stadium, calling for swift and comprehensive intervention to prevent further structural decline.
The Minister sounded the alarm during a tour of the facility on Friday, where he observed extensive damage, ongoing decay and stalled rehabilitation works that have left large portions of the stadium unusable. His visit highlighted long-standing fears among residents and sports stakeholders that the once-proud venue has been left to crumble due to neglect and poor maintenance.
Kofi Adams stressed that the situation demands immediate action, insisting that full restoration of the stadium must become a priority. He warned that delaying repairs would only worsen the structure’s condition and increase the financial burden of bringing it back to standard.
The Essipong Stadium, a key sports infrastructure in the Western Region, has suffered years of abandonment despite earlier phases of renovation. Its decline has not only affected sporting activities but also deprived the region of major events and economic opportunities.
The Minister’s call is expected to put renewed pressure on authorities and contractors to act swiftly as the public awaits concrete steps toward reviving the stadium.
