Special voting slated for December 1

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has fixed the special voting exercise for the 1st of December, 2016, ahead of the main election on December 7.

This was announced by the Chair of the EC, Charlotte Osei, at an Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Friday October 28 in Accra.

The special voting will involve personnel of the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and other relevant bodies, who will be performing key roles on the day of the main elections.

The exercise is meant to prevent such personnel, whose services will be required on voting day, from being disenfranchised during the general election.

Class91.3FM’s Paa Kwesi-Parker Wilson reported the EC Chair announcing the date at the IPAC meeting, which took place few hours after an Accra High Court had ruled against the EC in a case brought before it by the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) over the disqualification of its flag bearer from the presidential elections.

Speaking in an interview with Parker Wilson after the IPAC meeting, the National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, said: “Today, the IPAC meeting was very cordial. There were no contentions that much. We have made suggestions to the Electoral Commission.”
