Speaker Oquaye grossly bias, disrespectful – A.B.A Fuseini

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sagnarigu, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini has criticized the Speaker of Parliament Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye for what he described as his “gross bias and disrespect” against the Minority.

“I’m telling you that the Speaker is exhibiting such gross level of bias. He is, as it were, trying to protect his political party [the ruling NPP],” he fumed in an interview with Starr News’ Parliamentary Correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan.

This was after the minority leader Haruna Iddrisu was stopped from asking a follow-up question by the Speaker when the Agric minister appeared before the House for questioning Thursday.

According to him, the conduct of the speaker betrays his pledge to be impartial in his handling of parliamentary affairs saying, “now you are stifling debate.”
He thus threatened that if the speaker does not change his ways, the minority will be compelled to initiate an impeachment process against him.

“It is one of the measures open to us,” he said, adding “all options are on the table.”

The speaker’s refusal to allow the Minority to ask a follow up question, the Sagnarigu lawmaker said, is unprecedented in the annals of “our fourth republic” and that he is “overzealous in trying to protect his political party.”
