Speaker of Parliament donates to University of Ghana

Accra, October 27, GNA- Mr Peter Ala Adjetey, Speaker of Parliament, on Monday called on the Alumni of the University of Ghana (UG) to give back to the school, what have made them what they are today.

“I believe much have been given to us and we owe it as a responsibility to do more for our Alma mater”.

Mr Ala Adjetey said this when he presented a cheque for 50 million cedis as his personal contribution towards the second phase of the Jubilee Hall project of the University.

He said the reason for assisting the university was as a result of the numerous publications about lack of accommodation at the University.

He said that there are many young people who have potentials and if given the opportunity they would be able to excel.

“Investing in our children’s education is the best investment we can do with our money “

Mr Ala Adjetey also appealed to his contemporaries who are holding other important positions in the country to come to the aid of the University.

Professor Kwadjo Asenso Okyere, Vice Chancellor of the University thanked the Speaker for his kind gesture and said the donation has come when the institution has to turn down admission of some students because of lack of accommodation.

He urged the Speaker to appeal to members of Parliament who are alumni of the University to donate generously to the school.

Professor Asenso Okyere appealed to the private sector and Multi-national organisations in the country to invest in estate industry and provide accommodation for universities in the country.
