Speaker Bagbin’s Son Shines as North Hills’ Best Student

Vielung Kwadwo Bagbin, son of Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, was crowned the Overall Best Student at North Hills International School during its annual awards ceremony on Friday, July 4, 2025.

The Year 9 graduate was honored for his academic excellence, emerging as the top-performing student among his peers. The recognition, a highlight of the event, was met with resounding applause from teachers, dignitaries, and proud parents.

In a video from the ceremony that has since gained attention on social media, Vielung is seen walking confidently to receive his award, a moment that drew admiration from the audience for his poise and humility.

Adding a personal touch to the occasion, Vielung’s mother, Alice Adjua Yornas Bagbin, was present at the ceremony as a guest and presenter. She had earlier handed out awards in various categories, including some to her son. When Vielung was announced as the Overall Best Student, she joined him on stage, offered him a bouquet, and embraced him warmly, earning an emotional response from the audience.

The ceremony, a significant event on the school’s calendar, celebrated the achievements of outstanding students across various levels and categories. Vielung’s recognition stood out as a testament to both his hard work and the values instilled in him at home and school.
