South Akim Rural Bank organizes raffle

Koforidua, March 23, GNA-The West-Akyem District Chief Executive (DCE), Sheikh Umar Amoah has urged rural banks to carry out an aggressive search for customers to boost savings. He noted that the general public, especially market women shunned the idea of savings because of the misconception that it involved huge deposits.

The DCE was speaking at the sixth raffle bonanza draw organized by the South-Akim Rural Bank at Koforidua.

He urged the Bank to come out with various products that would attract a number of people in the non-formal sector to save with it. The Operations Manager of the Bank, Mr Paul K. Obeng said the raffle which ran between November 2004 and February, this year, mobilized deposits amounting to 3.7 billion cedis from about 500 entries with a share value of 52.6 million cedis.

He observed that the Bank was the first rural bank to organize such a raffle in the Region to reward customers for their immense contributions towards the progress of the financial institution. The Chairman of the Raffle Bonanza Committee, Mr Solomon Akwetey, said the 50 entries received various prizes ranging from electrical gadgets to wax prints.

The first winner received a deep freezer, the second, a television set and a refrigerator for the third winner.
