SOS for tomato factory rehabilitation

Ms. Joyce Aidoo, Gomoa District Chief Executive, last week appealed to investors to help reactivate an abandoned tomato processing factory at Nsuaem in the district, to facilitate the provision of a ready market for the numerous tomato farmers in the area.

Ms. Aidoo, made the appeal when her district took its turn at the ?district days?, to showcase its potentials, as part of the on-going Central Regional trade and Investment Fair, with the theme: “Harnessing the trade and investment potentials of the Central Region for poverty reduction and accelerated development”, at Cape Coast.

The DCE appealed to potential investors to go into areas like salt and mineral mining, agro-processing, quarrying, pottery and brick and tile production, and fish production and storage, since her district abounds in investment opportunities in these areas.

She told investors that they could also take advantage of the irrigation facility at Okyereko to cultivate rice and vegetables, and assured them that chiefs and landowners in the area, “are always eager to release land for large-scale farming”. She said investors could also avail themselves of the use of a large silo put up by the Ghana Food Distribution Corporation (GFDC), which is currently under-utilized.

The Mfantsiman DCE, Mr Kofi Wilson, appealed to investors to help revamp the ceramic industry at Saltpond.

The investors, he said, could also undertake ventures like oil exploration, agro-processing minerals exploitation, salt mining and the development of tourist attractions.

He said the district assembly plans to produce a documentary of its tourist attractions, which include festivals, forts and shrines, to step up the flow of tourists to the area.
