Son in court for threat on father’s life

Tema, Oct. 17, GNA — A 41-year old trader who threatened his 68 year old father with death and hired a gang to attack and kill him because he had heard that his father wanted to sell his house at Community Four in Tema, has been granted 100 million cedis bail by the Tema Circuit Court ‘A’.

Joshua Dugbatey pleaded not guilty to the charge, and will re-appear on November 11.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Sarah Aggrey Acquah told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on October 2 this year, at noon, while complainant, a retired employee of Shell Ghana Limited was asleep, the accused person woke him up in an angry mood.

Inspector Acquah said the accused person threatened his father that: “I will buy a gun and kill you, so that you don’t live to enjoy the proceeds of the house that you have decided to sell.”

The complainant explained to his son that he had no intention to sell the house, and advised him to calm down.

Inspector Acquah said the accused who had once been bonded over by a magistrate’s court for similar threats on his father’s life grew wilder and fearing for his life the complainant made a report at the Community Four Police Station.

She said when a police patrol team was dispatched to arrest him, the accused person grew even wilder and struggled with the policemen but was eventually overpowered and escorted to the police station. After investigations, Dugbatey was charged with the offence, the prosecution added.
