Son in court for allegedly murdering father

A 22-year-old man, who allegedly murdered his father at Sefwi Ata-Battour, in the Bia East District of the Western Region, has been remanded in prison custody by a Sefwi Debiso Magistrate’s Court.

The accused, Kwesi Stephen, has been charged with murder. He would re-appear before the Court on Friday, April 29, 2016.

Prosecuting, Inspector John Abadzi, told the Court, presided over Mr. George Ofori that on Wednesday, April 20, the father of the accused, Opanyin Yaw Adeyew, who was 78, went to a drinking spot with Stephen, at about 1730 hours.

The Prosecutor said when they were returning home, Stephen allegedly struck his father with a stick and he collapsed immediately.

He was thus rushed to a nearby Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compound, but he died while on admission.

The Prosecutor said the body of the Opanyin Adeyew had since been deposited at the Essam Government Hospital, pending autopsy.

The Prosecutor said that Police gathered from some residents in the Community indicating that Stephen sometimes behaved abnormally, but the Police were yet to confirm his mental status.
