The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Abuakwa South Constituency and Member of Parliament’s vetting committee Mr. Samuel Atta Akyea, has bemoaned the line of questioning of his colleagues.
He observes that most of the questions are averse to the standing orders of parliament and geared towards denigrating the images of the nominees rather than subject them to rigorous grilling on the areas they will be occupying.
While cautioning nominees to conduct themselves in a manner that will connote gross disrespect to the committee and its chair, he expressed hope that members will abide by the rules of vetting and not veer into areas that are not enshrined in the standing orders of parliament.
“In some cases there are always a multiplicity of questions and personality instead of trying to elicit answers from the nominee about his/her competence on the area he/she will occupy”, he told Lantam Papanko on the Ultimate Breakfast Show.
Mr. Samuel Atta Akyea who faces the 26-member committee today as Minister-Designate for Housing said he does not expect to be dealt leniently because he is one of them.
“I am not intimidated at all that I am meeting the committee today. I will give the answers to the best of my ability and ensure that I convinced them on why I am the best for the job. I know they will not deal leniently with me as they will ask me very tough questions”, he said.
