Despite the order by Ghana Medical Association (GMA) for its members to embark on a nationwide strike, some doctors in Cape Coast Metropolis are attending to patients.
This came to light when Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited some hospitals in the Metropolis on Wednesday to ascertain the impact of the strike.
At the University of Cape Coast Hospital, the Out Patient Department (OPD) was virtually empty, but an Assistant Administrator; Madam Evelyn Quartey, told GNA that the doctors are not on strike. At Central Regional Hospital some few patients were spotted at the OPD waiting to be attended to. A nurse at the Department said there are some few doctors on duty.
However, a nurse at the Dialysis Unit said no doctor had turned up to attend to the patients and described the situation as “worrying”.
At the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital, there were few patients at the OPD and a worker at one of the consulting rooms who gave her name as Grace Obeng said doctors were available in the consulting rooms.
However Ms Patience Aggrey, a Nurse at the Male Ward said her colleagues were attending to patients who needed urgent attention since no doctors had turned up.
