Soldiers escort Savelugu MCE to office

Heavily armed soldiers and police officers have today, Wednesday, June 14, 2017, escorted the Savelugu Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, to assume office following threats by some irate residents of the area not to allow her to perform her duties.

Hajia Ayishetu was confirmed in May 2017 and has since not reported to work because some residents, led by New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency executives, have refused to allow her step foot in her office.

The NPP youth argue that she is not a registered voter in the area, has not participated in or contributed to any of the party’s activities, and as such is an alien to them.

But in a short ceremony amidst security protection, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Issaka Braimah Basintale, officially handed over the mandate of the assembly to her at the assembly.

Meanwhile, information gathered by Class News’ Northern regional correspondent, Mohammed Gadafi, reveals some youth in the area are planning to hit the streets very soon.
