Soldier promoted for saving taxi driver’s life

A special ceremony has been held at the Headquarters of the Southern Command of the Ghana Army at Kpeshie in Accra to honour and promote Corporal Adansi Joseph for saving the life of a taxi driver.

Corporal Adansi who serves with the First Infantry Brigade (1BN) single-handedly arrested two armed robbers who attempted to kill the taxi driver, Mr Seth Krah, with vehicle registration number GT 3377 R, for ritual purposes on June 1. He was also awarded the Army Commander’s Plaque of Excellence and promoted to the rank of Sergeant with effect from June 1. Major-General Francis Y. Mahama, General Officer Commanding the Southern Sector said with the current spate of murders in the country Corporal Adansi’s decisive action is considered as exceptional valour in the face of extreme danger as he was not armed at the time of the incident. He said the Ghana Armed Forces have been emphasising to all ranks that the protection of civilians is an important task. It is a task in which they cannot afford to fail as it is the best way they can show to their civilian counterparts that the money being spent on them is not wasted.

He said the armed forces are now actively involved in night patrols in support of the police to combat the recent upsurge in crime. “It is, therefore, gratifying to see a soldier’s action on his own initiative to prevent crime in the way Sergeant Adansi did.” General Mahama warned soldiers who to take delight in molesting unarmed civilians to stop because when they are caught they would face the full rigours of the law including dismissal.
