Soldier pleads not guilty to incest

Accra, June 28, GNA – A military officer, George Koffie 43, who is accused of having sex with his 16-year-old daughter and a student on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty to incest when he made his second appearance before an Accra Circuit Court.

The victim is said to be pregnant as a result of her father’s conduct.

When the case was called, the Police substituted the charges and facts.

The case as presented by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah was that the accused on June 3, this year at about 0530 hours, asked the victim to accompany him (accused) to Accra to buy a pair of shoes.

The prosecution said on their way, the accused asked the victim whether she could keep a secret, then the accused drove her daughter in his car to a hotel and had sex with her and warned her not to tell anyone else he would kill her.

On the same day at about 1430 hours accused picked the victim up as if he was taking her to Adukrom in the Eastern Region, but drove her to a private hotel at La in Accra and had sex with her again.

Prosecution said after the act the accused person took the victim to Tema Station to board a car to Adukrom in the Eastern Region.

It said the victim on reaching school called her mother and informed her of his father’s conduct. The victim’s mother told her not to inform anyone else the issue would bring a disgrace to the entire family.

Prosecution said the victim’s mother rather bought her medicines, and after taking the medication victim detected that she was pregnant and lodged a complainant with the Police at Cantonments.

The case was, however, referred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) and accused was arrested and a medical form issued to the victim for examination and treatment.

Koffie was remanded into Police custody to re-appear before the court presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa on July 11.
