Soldier jailed for ‘fingering’ minor

A 35 year-old soldier has been sentenced to 36 months by an Accra Circuit Court for inserting his fingers into a six- year- old girl sexual organ at Burma Camp in Accra.

This was after the court had found Corporal Daniel Yeboah guilty on the charge of indecent assault.

Prosecutor Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire who presented the facts of the case before the court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava said the complainant was a soldier who resides at Burma Camp with the victim.

Prosecution said the convict and complainant resides on the same block at Burma Camp.

On September 19, 2012 at about 4:00 pm the victim returned from school and was playing on their compound when Corporal Yeboah called her into his room.

Detective Inspector Atimbire said Corporal Yeboah gave the victim some toffees and asked her to undress but she declined.

According to the prosecutor, the convict forcibly removed the victim’s pant and inserted his fingers into her vagina.

The victim shouted for help and her mother went to her rescue and lodged a report at the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit of Ghana Police Service and the victim was issued with a medical form.

When the victim was examined and treated, prosecution said the complainant returned with the medical report.

The prosecutor said when Corporal Yeboah was arrested he admitted the offence in his caution statement.
