Soldier dies in mob attack

Accra, April 10, GNA – The Military High Command and the Police have begun investigations into an incidence in which a soldier was killed and two others were injured at old Bortianor, near Accra on Saturday.

A statement signed by Colonel E.W.K. Nibo, Director of Public Affairs, Burma Camp, said preliminary investigations indicated that three unarmed soldiers went to the town with two civilian escorts for reasons still unknown.

It said the soldiers, who were perceived to be on a private errand, were assaulted by a mob, until one soldier died and his other colleagues and escorts sustained injuries.

A Police patrol team rescued them, and those injured were conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital; the statement said. The general public has, therefore, been advised to desist form meting out instant justice to suspects and rather hand them over to law enforcing authorities.

“The Military High Command takes a serious view of such incidences and wishes to assure the public that the matter is under investigation, the statement said.
