Soldier arrested for extortion at Enchi

The Enchi Police Command in the Western region has arrested a military officer from the Burma Camp in Accra for alleged extortion.

The suspect, Corporal Dovlo Agbeshie, with service NO 192629, and member of the Band unit of the army, allegedly extorted huge sums of monies from unsuspecting Chinese Nationals and some local miners in Enchi and its surrounding communities.

The residents who had had enough of the said extortions from Corporal Agbeshie and his accomplices hinted the police who managed to arrest him. He subsequently escaped but was rearrested at the Yiwabra barrier at Enchi together with his civilian accomplice.

Apart from his military uniform, the Enchi Police also retrieved 3 different mobile phones from the suspect.

Corporal Agbeshie and his civilian accomplices are expected to be transferred to the Asankragua police Command for further investigations.

This is the third time in less than two months that military personnel have been arrested by the police for alleged extortion and robberies in the Western region.

On October 30, three officers; A.C.2 Oliviete Solomon with service No.207333, AC2 Agantwuo Agana with number 207323 and Joseph Osei Abraham numbered 207356 AC2 were arrested by the Tarkwa divisional police command for alleged extortions.
