Solar solar electrification projects commissioned at Mpohor District

Akutuase (W/R), Sept 16, GNA – Two solar electrification projects to enhance service delivery at the Akutuase and Atobiase community clinics in the Mpohor-Wassa East district were commissioned on Wednesday by Mr Edward Tawiah Amprofi, District Chief Executive. The District Health Management Team and the Health Committees of the two communities funded the projects at a total cost of more than 71 million cedis. The two clinics serve more than 30 predominantly food growing communities.

Mr. Amprofi assured the people of the government’s determination to improve the lots of Ghanaians through the provision of infrastructure. He said many communities in the district including Atobiase and Akutuase would be hooked on to the national electricity grid under the Self-Help Electrification Programme (SHEP 1V). Dr. Kwaku Karikari, District Director of Health Services, said the DHMT was working closely with other stakeholders to provide affordable, efficient and improved health service for the people. Heurged the people to patronize the services of the well-trained and motivated staff of the Ghana Health Service manning health facilities in the District.

Dr. Karikari expressed the hope that health personnel posted to the area would stay and work in the communities with the provision such basic facilities like electricity. He said the provision of the solar power was only one of the major steps being taken with the District Assembly to motivate health workers at the Atobiase and Akutuase sub-districts.

Dr. Karikari commended the unit committees and the Assembly Members for their efforts towards the completion of the projects. He called for cooperation between the health workers and the Village Health Committees to maintain facilities at the clinics. Nana Kwadwo Gyenin Ampem III and Nana Asare Brempong II, chief of Akutuase and Atobiase respectively thanked Dr. Karikari and Mr. Amprofi for working hard to improve the lives of the people.
