Sogakope police intercept hijacked cars

Sogakope (V/R), Dec. 8, GNA – The Sogakope Police intercepted three saloon cars suspected to have been snatched from their owners within the last three weeks at a snap checkpoint at Sogakope.

Mr Godact Hlordzi, Deputy Superintendent of Police i n charge of Sogakope told the Ghana News Agency that the intercepted cars were Prizm Saloon car, which was without registration plate, an Opel Astra taxi cab bearing GT 2449 U and KIA Pride, with registration no. GW 2875 X. He said the Prism Saloon car suspected to have been stolen was found parked at Agave, a farming community in the South Tongu district, following a tip off last Monday.

In the case of the Opel taxicab, he said its driver was heading towards Accra from Aflao at midnight three weeks ago and that the occupants abandoned it and fled near the Unipetrol filling station when they detected the presence of the police ahead and ignored orders to stop. Mr Hlordzi said the KIA Pride was intercepted when the driver, who mentioned his name only as Kwamivi, aged 21, from Akosombo in the Eastern region, was found to be in use of a driving license bearing the name of one Numo Mohammed and a picture other than his. He said two other occupants fled while Kwamivi, who had failed to disclose the owner of the car and how he came by the license, was being examined at the checkpoint.

Mr Hlordzi said Kwamivi also failed to name the two fleeing occupants adding that the new seizures in addition to a Fiat Saloon car with number AS 5637 Q, intercepted nearly a year ago, brings to four the number of cars seized by the Sogakope police and asked the owners to contact the station.

He appealed to motorists and commuters to remain extra alert, particularly as Christmas approaches to avoid falling into traps of criminals. They should also cooperate fully with the security by informing them with dispatch when in trouble, he advised.
