Society should not give up on drug addicts – ASP Alale

The Commander of the Ashanti Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jeremiah Alale, says society must not give up on those addicted to hard drugs.

Such people should not be abandoned, he said, pointing out that, they could be helped to recover to lead responsible lives.

He was speaking at forum on drugs held by the Wiling Way Foundation Academy (WWFA), a rehabilitation facility for drug addicts.

It sought to educate the public on the dangers associated with the use of narcotics.

ASP Alale called for increased support and cooperation of the people to fight the drugs menace.

They should provide useful leads for the arrest of illegal drug peddlers in their various communities.

He announced that a total of 162 arrests were made by the Unit he heads, in the region in the last 11 months.

Madam Lydia Abena Manu, Director of the Academy, said the facility had successfully rehabilitated 1,209 addicts over the past four-and-a-half years.

They had been reaching out to the various hideouts of the addicts to educate and bring them to the rehabilitation centre.
