ActionAid spend billions of cedis on development Chereponi (N/R), July 7, GNA- Action-Aid Ghana, an International NGO has constructed 17 three-classroom blocks, KVIPs, a number of dual desks and poly-tanks at a total cost of 150 million cedis for 17 communities in the Saboba/Chereponi District of the Northern Region. The NGO has also constructed a 1.5 billion-cedi dam for irrigation at Tombu, whilst another has also been constructed for the people of Nasoni at a cost of 900 million cedis.

Mr. Kweku Koranteng, Programme Manager of ActionAid in-charge of Eastern corridor of the Northern Region, made this Known when he conducted Mrs Frema Osei-Opare, the organisation’s former Country Director and a six-member Italian team of ActionAid workers to inspect some of the projects at Chereponi. He said the organisation had also provided 600 bicycles to school pupils in the area who travel more than five kilometres daily to attend classes. ActionAid has further provided hand-dug wells to communities in the area, which face severe water problems and contributed towards the building of an overhead tank for the Chereponi water works.

Mrs Frema Osei-Opare commended the chiefs and people of the area for their active participation in the execution of the projects, which she said, had led to their successful completion. She said the Italian branch of ActionAid had since 1993, been supporting development projects in Chereponi. Fame Alhaji Abubakar Malba, paramount chief of Chereponi Traditional Area thanked ActionAid and the Italians for assisting to develop the area. He also commended the government for creating the enabling environment, which he said, had made it possible for NGOs to assist in the development of the country.
