SNNIT manager slams ECG for rampant power outage

Agona Swedru, March 1, GNA – Mr Sylvester Ankobil, Agona District Manager of the Social Security and National Trust (SSNIT), has expressed concern about the rampant power cuts at Swedru. He said the rampant power outages had caused considerable damage to electrical and electronic gargets such as computers, air conditioners and refrigerators, which the organisation had to spend huge sums to repair.

Mr Ankoibil said this when Mr Ben Mensah, District Chief Executive (DCE), visited the SSNIT offices as part of his familiarisation tour of some departments, agencies and organisations to learn at first hand the problems confronting them. He stated that power would just go out without prior notice and appealed to the DCE to impress upon the ECG to reverse the trend. The Manager told the DCE that SSNIT had put in place a package to assist individuals especially businessmen and women to expand their ventures but people in the district had not taken advantage of the facility.

He said people in the informal sector could also contribute to SSNIT to enjoy pension. Mr Mensah assured SSNIT that the Assembly would do everything possible to ensure that ECG improved its operations to promote peace and development. He asked SSNIT to come out with a comprehensive housing scheme for the district to help address acute accommodation problem facing workers. Mr Mensah said due to non-availability of houses, majority of government workers commuted from Accra to Swedru, which did not enhance productivity.

He stated that this had led to some workers absenting themselves especially on Mondays from office, which did not augur well for productivity. Mr Mensah expressed the wish of the Assembly to collaborate with SSNIT and estate developers to provide adequate houses in the District.
