Fear and panic gripped teachers and pupils of the Presbyterian Primary School at Akropong in the Nkoranza South District when a dead snake was found in the drawer of the class six teacher on Monday, February 27.
Mr Charles Adutwum, the Headteacher, who said this at a meeting of the school’s Parent/Teacher Association at Akropong, named the teacher as Mr. Kwadwo Owusu.
The Headteacher said some of the pupils revealed the incident to him minutes after he reported to school on that day.
He said the informants also mentioned to him the names of three boys, all in class six, and revealed that the three boys killed the snake the previous day after classes and hid it in the drawer and left for home.
Mr. Adutwum said on receiving the information he followed up to the classroom and found to his dismay the dead snake hidden in the class teacher’s drawer.
The three pupils, who were threatened with punishment before their parents and guardians, confessed they did that to test their teacher’s pulse to see if he was bold or timid.
The headteacher recalled a similar incident in the school some few years ago when a class two pupil attempted to smear the class teacher’s table with body-itching leaves (Apia).
He condemned such actions by the pupils and advised parents and guardians to discipline their children at home so they would not pose any problems in school.
