Small-scale miner goaled for indecent assault

Tarkwa, (W/R) June 2, GNA- A Tarkwa circuit court, has jailed a 28 year- old Small Scale Miner, Kofi Mensah to two years imprisonment for indecently assaulting an eight year old girl and escaping from lawful custody.

Mensah who pleaded not guilty was asked to pay 1.2 million cedis for damaging a mobile phone of a police officer who was asked to effect his arrest or in default serve four years prison term. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Jonathan Adotey told the court presided over by Mr John Ajet Nasam, that on April 1, this year the victim who was on an errand met her friend on the way and they started playing together.

The accused sent the two girls to buy him a sachet of water and when they returned, Mensah took advantage of the quietness of the area and fondled the victim.

Inspector Adotey said the victim became unusually quite after the act prompting her parents to examine her body, during which they noticed bloodstains in her underwear.

The girl then narrated the incident leading to the arrest of the accused.

Mensah however escaped from lawful custody but was re-arrested.
