Accra, July 12, GNA – President John Evans Atta Mills, on Tuesday received a special massage from Dr Danilo Turk, President of the Republic of Slovenia.
Details of the message delivered by a Special Envoy of the Slovak President, Mr Andrej Logar, at the Osu Castle in Accra, were not disclosed but there were believed to be seeking Ghana’s support in Slovania’s quest to become a member of the UN Security Council.
President Mills lauded the relationship between Ghana and Slovenia, and expressed the need to enhance the bond.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, extolled the bilateral relations between the two nations dating back to the era of Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and former Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito.
Alhaji Mumuni said there was the need to enhance the relations between the two countries, especially in the area of trade.
He said Slovania, which became member of the European Union in 2004, had offered Ghana various forms of assistance and it was time for Ghana to show a reciprocal support for the Eastern European nation as she sought membership of UN Security Council.
Alhaji Mumuni said such mutual co-operation would be to the benefit of the two nations, adding that they could also cooperate in the areas of environment protection and in the development of human resource.
Mrs Evelyn Anita Stokes-Hayford, Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy and Slovania, announced that an investment drive had been started to invite entrepreneurs and industry captains to Ghana to explore mutual areas of investment.
She said the President of Slovania had expressed interest in Ghana’s culture, and plans had been made for cultural exchange between the two nations.
