Mrs.. Esther Lily Nkansah, Western Regional Minister, at the Weekend stressed the need for media practitioners to rise above personal differences and bitterness and save the country from disintegration. She said the creeping war of attrition being fought in the media front should pave way for writings which unite rather than divide the people. This was contained in a speech read on her behalf by Mr.. clement Ayensu, presiding member of the Shama-Ahanta metropolitan assembly at the launching of Skyy FM, a local private radio station at Takoradi, at the weekend. Mrs.. Nkansah declared: “Media practitioners must rise above personal differences, bitterness and think of the interest of the country before making utterances which may be counter-productive and hurt the feeling of others. Mrs.. Nkansah acknowledged the importance of the midia in national development nothing that “it is a powerful tool for both good and evil.” In this direction, it is the right of journalists to broadcast or print, she said, but cautioned that they should be guided by “A concomitant obligation to responsibility”. Mr.. Michael Nithaurianakis, second secretary at the British High commission, said his outfit is liaising with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to train journalists in private broadcasting to further strengthen democracy and responsibility. Paapa Owusu Ankomah, MP for Sekondi and Minority Spokesman on communication, urged journalists to insist on the truth. Mr.. Wilson Arthur, chief executive of Skyy FM , said the station aims at providing unbiased information readily to the public.
