Skill workshop for youth association ends

Anama (B/A) Oct. 27, GNA – The Business Advisory Centre at Nkoranza has organised a five-day training workshop to equip 20 members of the youth association at Anama, a farming community in Nkoranza district with skills in bee-keeping and to enhance their economic activities.

Mr. Richard N. Adengya, head of the centre explained that the workshop was meant to teach the participants and farmers to diversify their agricultural activities to improve their livelihood. He said bee-keeping was a viable project as honey enjoyed ready and high market price and urged the participants to put the skills acquired into practice to enhance their lot.

Mr. Adengya said BAC and the National Board for Small-Scale Industries (NBSSI) were determined to encourage the youth to undertake economic ventures that would bring improvement into their living standards and promote poverty reduction.

He disclosed that the district office of the Centre had trained a number of people in mushroom farming, batik tie-dye printing, soap and pomade making, snail and grass cutter rearing whilst some had received education and training in small business management and marketing.

Mr. Adengya made a personal donation of a packet of nails worth 130,000 cedis to encourage the participants to use local resources such as wood to prepare beehives to start the project.

Mr. Daniel Yandor, facilitator at the workshop commended the participants for coming together to acquire skills to create self- employment for an improvement in their lives.

He urged other youth to take advantage of the economic training programmes designed by BAC and patronize them to become self-sufficient. The course prefect, Mr. H. O. Nyantakyi, on behalf of the participants commended the management of the Centre and NBSSI for organizing the workshop for them to enhance the development of the community.

He gave the assurance that they would start the bee keeping project in the area and impart the knowledge and skills acquired to others to expand the project in the area.
