One-hundred and twenty persons who registered during the government’s registration of the unemployed, have voluntarily offered themselves for training in employable skills.
The first batch of 25 have been enrolled for training in weaving, batik, tye-and-dye at the Intermediate Technology Transfer Centre (ITTC) in Wa.
Ten of them would undertake six months training in weaving while the rest are expected to do a three-month course in batik, tye and dye, Mr Peter Adasi, Manager of the Wa ITTC said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wa on Tuesday.
He said the training programme involved theory and practical and that the trainees were only required to pay a registration fee of 5,000 cedis each while the whole cost of training would be borne by the government.
Mr Adasi said those who have opted for weaving had already started the programme while five million cedis worth of materials for batik, tye and dye programme had been delivered to cater for the first batch of 15 trainees.
He said all the training materials were procured by the government through GRATIS, which is carrying out the training programmes.
He said the government intended to resettle all those who would take advantage of the programme to acquire employable skills.
Mr Adasi advised the youth to take advantage and acquire employable skills for a better future.
