Abetifi (E/R), Oct 20, GNA – The government would soon release funds to the 60 new Municipal and District Assemblies to build administrative and residential facilities.
This is to enable these assemblies to use their share of the common fund and internally generated fund to finance development projects. The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Development, Mr Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, said this when he addressed a durbar of chiefs, assembly members and heads of departments at Abetifi on Wednesday as part of his visit to some district assemblies in the Eastern Region.
He commended the people of Kwahu for their entrepreneurship in the private sector, which he said was the engine of growth and gave assurance of government’s assistance to develop eco-tourism in the Kwahu area.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Asamoah, said the assembly for the past one year had initiated 54 projects in the education, economic, administrative, water and sanitation sectors throughout the district.
He said 630 youths had been employed under the National Youth Employment Programme while 10 dress making apprentices were also given a sewing machine each to support them to acquire relevant skills to become self- employed after their training. Mr Asamoah said 25 brilliant but needy students were awarded scholarship to further their education in nursing training colleges, the universities, college of education and technical/vocational training institutions.
