Six- Member Grievance Review Committee Inaugurated

Accra, Jan. 5, GNA – A Six Member Grievance Review Committee for the Fare Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) was on Thursday inaugurated to look into complaints following the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy, in Accra.

The members of the committee are Mr Henry Atta Paidoo, Mr Bossman Agyarko, Mr Edward Kwapong, Mr Alex Frimpong, Mrs Eileen Odartei-Laryea, and Ms Peggy Addo.

Mr Enoch Teye-Mensah, Minister of Employment and Social Welfare said the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) was implemented in January 2010 to promote equity in the administration of public service pay, establish the principles for matching wage increases with productivity, support a high performance culture in the public sector and industrial harmony.

He said the SSSS aimed at improving the capacity of the public service sector to compete with the private sector in attracting and retaining key staff needed for effective service delivery.

It would also drive change in the public service sector and allow greater management control of the public sector wage bill.

Mr Teye-Mensah said: “Government anticipated the development of problems with the implementation of the new pay policy, involving an estimated 470,265 public employees, hence the formation of a grievance review committee for resolving all complaints resulting from the operationalisation of the policy.

He noted that with 98 per cent of public sector employees migrated onto the structure within a year and the remaining two per cent to be migrated at the end of January 2012, it is important to set up machinery that would carefully examine grievance and ensure that justice is done to the parties involved without fear or favour.

Mr John T. Warmann, Chairman of the FWSC said the committee established in accordance with section 19 of the Commission’s Act is to examine the implementation of the new pay reform and to look at major grievances that had come up as a result.

Mr Bossman Agyarko, Member of the committee said he and his colleagues would do their best to work impartially according to the best practices of salary administration to the satisfaction of stakeholders.
