Six Armed Robbers Arrested

Six members of a gang of armed robbers who killed two policemen during a broad daylight robbery at a bank on Thursday have been arrested. Their arrests followed an operation mounted by the Military at Mampong in the Ashanti Region, where the robbery occurred.

Lt J.K Buame who led a team of soldiers from the Northern Command to mount the operation told reporters that the soldiers heard of the robbery on a local FM station and at the same time, received a call from the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council for assistance. He said 40 soldiers were dispatched to confront the robbers.

When they got to Mampong, the robbers had completed their operation and bolted into the bush. Lt Buame said the youth of the town who had succeeded in lynching two of the robbers went into the bush with the soldiers and succeeded in arresting the remaining six of the robbers.

Meanwhile, irate residents of Ashanti-Mampong have besieged the local police station demanding the blood of the six robbers who are being held to help in investigations.
