Site selected for temporary Gbewaa Palace – Interior Minister

Accra, Sept. 16, GNA – The Minister of The Interior, Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang on Tuesday said a site has been selected for the construction of temporary Gbewaa Palace following an agreement between the feuding Andani and Abudu Royal Gates to the Ya-Na Skin. He said since some level of understanding seemed to have been reached between the parties, another round of talks would soon be held to untie some knotty points.

The Dagbon Traditional Area has been under a state of emergency since March 2002 when the Paramount Chief of the area, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II was assassinated.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang announced that the curfew that was imposed on Bawku as a result of the Kussasi – Mamprusi conflict that led to the loss of lives and the burning down of part of the Bawku Market had been lifted following the return of peace to the area.
