Sir John won’t resign – Kofi Jumah

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, strongly disagrees with those calling on the party’s General Secretary to resign.

There is no perfect human being on earth, he said, and thus a call on Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as Sir John to quit his post is misplaced.

“A perfect human being can only be found in heaven; once we live on earth everyone is fallible. All we can do is to pray to God to limit our mistakes,” Mr Jumah opined.

Kofi Jumah was reacting to calls by a found-member of the NPP, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, on Sir John to resign after being convicted by the Supreme Court for contempt.

Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe said Sir John after the “humiliation” before the entire nation is not fit to be the chief executive of a great party like NPP.

But Kofi Jumah on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday bemoaned what he described as the holier than thou attitude by some people after the unfortunate incident.

He noted that Sir John with his experience at the bar, under normal circumstances, would not have made those comments.

“I don’t think Sir John will intentionally do harm to anybody. I have known him that long in my life so if I have to vouch for him, I will do it at any forum even in front of Justice Atuguba,” Jumah maintained.

He noted that instead of being judgemental, politicians must do an introspection and take a cue from Sir John’s ordeal.

The former Asokwa MP, conceding that Sir John was not measured in his utterances, added that “nailing him on the cross should not be the option”.

Kofi Jumah said what Sir John needs now is support from the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party and not condemnation.
