Sir John turns preacher

Matthew 6:33 mandates every believer in the Christian community to seek first the Kingdom of God, in expectation of his goodness.

In regard of this mandate, most Christians would not put aside the bible or make it just a reference book, but rather their source of life.

It is in this respect that NPP Chief Scribe who has earned several marks for being very forthright and undaunted in his political career, decided to showcase to the nation another side of his life not exposed to the general public.

With nothing being told of his religious background, General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly called Sir John, last Sunday exhibited his worth when it comes to religious beliefs.

Sir John joined the congregation of the Church of Pentecost, Dr Thomas Wyatt Assembly in Accra, in the company of the party’s 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and a host of dignitaries to express their gratitude to God for his divine guidance over them.

During the thanksgiving service, Sir John’s received rapturous applause from the congregants when he was for the first time addressed as a Church Elder at the Seventh Day Adventist, instead of his usual position as NPP General Secretary.

At this moment, Sir John who obviously forgot his political cloak rather slipped on his religious cassock as he passionately opened the bible to read out some verses to the congregants when he together with Nana Addo and his Vice mounted the pulpit.

Quoting from Psalm 136, he thanked God for remembering the party in their “low estate…and “setting them free from their enemies…”
