Sir John better off as an assemblyman – Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says delegates of opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) did a great disservice to the party by electing Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie as their General Secretary.

He said Sir John as the NPP scribe is popularly called has done nothing than to bring the name of the party into disrepute.

The NDC scribe was responding to claims by the Chairman of the NPP that Sir John has provided the antidote to repel his [Asiedu Nketia also known as General Mosquito’s] vicious attacks.

According to Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the NPP which hitherto could not withstand the ‘venom’ of Asiedu Nketia has his match in their party.

But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Johnson Asiedu Nketia opined that comparing him to Sir John is a misnomer.

He said being able to lead the NDC to victory in two successive elections sets him apart from Sir John whom he says caused the NPP’s defeat in 2012.

General Mosquito wondered why NPP General Secretary is seeking re-election after an “abysmal performance”.

In his view, Sir John in spite of his experience as a lawyer is better off as an assemblyman than a General Secretary of a great opposition party like the NPP.

Asiedu Nketia urged Sir John to save himself the humiliation at the party’s upcoming delegate congress in March this year and rather consider contesting District Assembly elections.

Commenting on the chances of the other executives, he wished they are retained for a resounding victory for the NDC in 2016.

He said “I pray Jake, others be retained because fifty percent of our job will be done. We have defeated them before and 2016 will be no exception”.
