The former Secretary to Cabinet under the erstwhile Mills administration, Sir James Bebaako Mensah, has been sworn into office as Ghana’s first ever diplomatic envoy to the Vatican City.
His appointment comes years after the late President Mills started the effort for Ghana to get a diplomatic representation at the Holy City.
Administering the instrument of office, President John Mahama, said he is optimistic Mr. Bebaako Mensah will give Ghana a better representation at the Vatican City.
“As the first Ambassador being posted to the Vatican, I am sure that you won’t have any problems at all considering that you are a committed catholic and already been recognised by the Pope severally,” the president said.
“You are held in quite high esteem in the Catholic Church so we couldn’t have found a better person to represent us,” he added.
For his part, Sir Bebaako Mensah said he will use his experience in government and his back ground as a catholic to draw educational and other diplomatic support to Ghana.
